HENRY MEEUWSE

Pastor

Henry Meeuwse serves as the Commissioned Pastor at Bethel Presbyterian Church, PCUSA. Originally from Michigan, Pastor Henry served in lay ministry in South- Eastern Kentucky with the Reformed Church in America. He was called to the James Island Presbyterian Church and Foundation in Charleston. Pastor Henry served for thirty-two years as Executive Director of the James Island Presbyterian Foundation and thirty years as the Associate in Ministry for Mission and Outreach. He has Master’s degrees in Counseling and Personnel Administration and graduated from the South Carolina Presbyterian Lay School of Theology. Married to Dr. Kristi (Woods) Meeuwse originally of Greenville, SC, they are the parents of four children: Chris (Amanda), Michael, Matthew, and Kelsea (Adam). The grandparents of Bronson, Savannah, Noah, and David. And the parents of the four-legged family member, Coco. Pastor Henry’s interests include spending time outdoors, camping, reading, hiking, visiting, and family. He currently serves as chairman of the advisory council for the SC Presbyterian Lay School of Theology, a board member of  Charleston Area Senior Citizens/Meals on Wheels, Inc., and a board member of Ansonborough House, Inc., a six-story, affordable housing project with 77 apartments for older adults.

Melodie Ellis

Financial Secretary

 MELODIE, a native of Colleton County, is a member of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church.  She became a part-time member of the Bethel staff as financial secretary in January 2026.  She is a graduate of John C. Calhoun Academy (now CPA) and the University of South Carolina.  She has worked for the Colleton County Fire

and Rescue for 32 years. 

 

An avid reader, she keeps an account of every book she has read. 

In addition to reading, she enjoys crocheting.

 

Melodie has two children, two grandchildren, several dogs and cats.

GAIL MCCORMACK

Clerical Secretary

Gail is a native of Colleton County.  She grew up in the Baptist faith, attending Edgewood Baptist Church where she was baptized as a teen.  She worked for forty-seven years in county government, beginning her career in Colleton County in 1975.  In 1999, she joined Clarendon County, retiring as Clarendon County Assessor in 2022.  Gail became clerical secretary at Bethel in 2023, shortly after retirement. 
Married for 25 years to Bucky, they are parents of Daniel, Brandon, and Garrett.  They are MiMi and PaPa to five grandchildren and many others they call their own. 
Gail enjoys playing the piano, gardening, traveling and spending time with family.
